There are lot of diseases which are contagious and spread very fast to other people with physical contact or through air. Even I have a doubt when I have a disease or disorder whether it will spread to my other family members or in simple words is that disease contagious or not. It can be a major worry for some people. The same goes when someone else has a health problem and you are afraid if it is a contagious disease. It is necessary to know about the nature of the disease and how it spreads in order to keep ourselves safe from such diseases. Eczema is one such disease that people think of often. They have a common question in their mind, “Is eczema contagious or not?”. They wonder if they can get eczema just by touching a person or will they get it if a suffering baby sneezes. And for all the above questions i can give a simple and one word answer below.

Is eczema contagious? No, eczema is not contagious.

Contagious means a disease can be transmitted from one person to another. But luckily whatever the conditions may be, eczema cannot be passed on from person to person. I guess this could have solved a long lasting doubt you had on the disease eczema, which is the most common type of skin inflammation.
Why is eczema not contagious? Eczema is a disease that is transferred genetically from one of the parents to the children. It can be passed on only through reproduction and no others means is involved in the spread of this disease. But even though eczema is not contagious the infections caused due to eczema may be transferred from person to person through physical contact or air. It affects the skin to a great extent so that the skin’s immune system is affected and it is prone to being attacked by various infections.  eg. Staph infection is one such occuring infection on the skin. So, if a person has such infections due to eczema they have to be cautious when interacting with other people. Your doctor is best placed to advise you on proper skin care routines to reduce the chances of infection. The treatment for eczema varies from person to person depending on the type of eczema and its response to treatment.
To conclude eczema is not contagious and you can interact without any problem with people having it.

Eczema-Is it contagious?

Eczema is a disease caused due to the hypersensitivity in the skin. It matches to the allergy but it causes a long term inflammation in the skin on some parts of the body and lasts for a long time. Due to this inflammation on the skin it becomes itchy and scaly. Usually if it occurs in infants, it will be cured for half of them before the age of 3 or 4 but for adults, eczema occurs in recurring condition and for a long term.
Talking about, is eczema a contagious disease, I would firmly say, No, eczema is not a contagious disease. I heard few people asking me the question, “if it is not contagious then why do all my family members have eczema?” It is because transfer of eczema disease is genetic and it occurs through reproduction and not through physical contact or through air. People with eczema often have a family history of allergic conditions like asthma, hay fever, or eczema. It also do not spread from a part of the body to another part but it may happen as time passes by due to dramatic change in temperature and humidity.
Eczema may seem to be contagious due to the horrible symptoms they exhibit on a person but thankfully they are not what we expect to be. It does not spreads over by shaking hands or hugging. Dryness, redness or skin discoloration, inflammation, scaling, thickening of the skin, oozing skin sores and crusting skin sores are a few of the indications that you have eczema.
So, I have answered your question “is eczema contagious disease” and it is definitely not.
